Spectrum Health Heart Center
The Fred and Lena Meijer Spectrum Health Heart Center officially opened its doors in 2004. Allied Electric was proud to be a part of such an innovative, state-of-the-art medical facility. The construction of this ten-story, 450,000 square foot building was completed in a tight two-year schedule. The facility houses Michigan’s largest open-heart surgery program and features medical and information technology including wireless patient monitoring and secure laptop access to electronic medical records. The center includes Cardio-Cath Labs, MRI Labs and Cardio Operating Rooms as well as a four-story “Healing Garden” right in the center of the facility. The eighth-floor consists of training/conference rooms with room-surround digital presentation and video-conferencing capabilities. The electrical contract portion alone for this project was $12 million. The Heart Center, located on a tight urban site adjoining the existing Hospital, was built in a multi-phase construction sequence and involved utility relocations, structural demolition, disconnecting two skywalks and providing independent support and construction of the Heart Center foundations.
